Hello and welcome!

August 31, 2009

I’m Jay Kadis, audio engineer at CCRMA and one of the instructors.  I’ve played guitar since junior high, let’s just say it’s been a while.  Along the way I was fascinated by the recording studio and everything involved in making sound recordings.  I’ve had some great opportunities to pursue these interests, first by building my own home studio and later outfitting and maintaining the CCRMA recording studio.  My background is in biology, particularly neurophysiology and electrobiology.  I worked for 12 years as a research assistant in the Stanford Medical School Department of Neurology before becoming the audio engineer at CCRMA.  I have been very lucky to be able to pursue the fields that most interested me and now teach sound recording so I can pass along what I’ve learned.  I still play in a couple of bands and write and record original rock music.
