Assignment 1: Meyer Library

September 8, 2009

I originally planned on recording the sounds of different trees around campus, but when I went outside with my voice recorder, all I could hear was wind. This drove me indoors, to the second floor of Meyer Library. The second floor is a very cool space, because its high ceiling makes everything very echoey, and every sound is magnified. I tried recording almost everything up-close though, because I didn’t want the echo to distort the sounds too much. You can hear the space pretty well in the door-closing clip, the paper-cutter clip, and the water fountain clip, but it might be harder to hear the space in most of the others (typing, zipper, Jamba Juice).

Yes, a very hi-fi place and really nice sounds. Too bad some of them have been recorded too softly. Also the descriptions could be better.
