Suggestion for better tagging

September 12, 2009

It is really difficult to find tags to cover the whole complexity of a given sound. We can use tags that identify its context, the objects and the actions used in producing it, its acoustic and perceptual characteristics, its communication function, its emotional impact, … and it is nice to use to tools to help exploring all this language space.

A useful way to explore the tag space is to use a dictionary (such as Wiktionary) and explore synonyms of the tags you thing are relevant. Also a very complementary approach is to find words semantically related to a given one by using the lexical database of Wordnet. You can use Wordnet on-line from http://wordnetweb.princeton.edu/perl/webwn.
